Day 1 Wrap-Up: Small Business Hackathon at QuickBooks Connect

Day 1 of the #SmallBizHack at #QBconnect is in the books and it’s been a great day of coding and fun.  We kicked off the day with an overview of all of the API challenges – QuickBooks Online, Jibo, Square, Api.ai, and Postman.

To keep hackers energized, we’ve also done a few raffles. One involved a hippity hop unicorn competition, that you really just have to see to believe:

We’ve gotten a slow start though on the human pyramids. We hope to rectify this on Sunday.

We’d also like to introduce our hackathon judges:

  • Jennifer Moore: A Top 4 Global Firm of the Future, Jennie Moore is owner and operator of Moore Details Bookkeeping, a fast-growing, forward-thinking business that has helped numerous clients evolve and fine-tune their financial operations for more than 10 years. Today, she is also a content writer and mentor in the Intuit Mentoring Program. She lives with her husband and three kids in Ontario, Canada. Jennie’s passion to help has provided her with opportunities to speak at events such as the annual conference for the Institute of Professional Bookkeepers of Canada and the prestigious Intuit Thrive Conference.
  • Dawn Brolin: Member/operator of Powerful Accounting, LLC in Windham, CT. This firm’s client base includes not-for-profit agencies, contractors, government, retailers, attorneys and other service providers. With more than sixteen years in the field, Dawn has in-depth accounting expertise, coupled with a personal understanding of the challenges of running a business. Through her experiences as a business owner, she has discovered the importance of the relationship between good accounting records, good business processes, and running a successful business.
  • Larry Myler: An author and business strategist. He has been involved in seven startups, and is currently the Founder and CEO of By Monday, Inc. He specializes in entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship, innovation, employee engagement and revenue growth through strategic alignment. Larry is the author of Indispensable By Monday (Wiley, 2010), and has been a Forbes.com contributor since 2012, with more than 145 articles published to date. Larry is an adjunct professor in the Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology in the Marriott School of Business at BYU.
  • Vinay Pai: Vinay Pai is an experienced technology executive with a track record of leading global high-performing organizations, driving technology transformation at scale, and driving business growth globally. As the VP for Intuit Developer, Vinay leads the platform strategy and business segment chartered to grow the Intuit ecosystem through a vibrant community of 3rd-party apps and developers. Over the past seven years at Intuit, he has held a number of leadership roles in Intuit’s Small Business team, most recently VP of Engineering for Intuit Small Business. Vinay joined Intuit in 2009 as part of the PayCycle acquisition. Prior to Intuit, he held executive leadership roles in startups and enterprise companies, including a cloud startup, Sun Microsystems, and Schlumberger. Early in his career, Vinay also founded a three-person startup on the Apple platform that delivered three products.
